Describe an occasion when you helped a family member/relative with something IELTS Cue Card

You should say:

When it happened:

It happened around six months ago, during the winter holidays. I was on a short break from work, and most of my family had gathered at my uncle’s house for a small reunion.

Who you helped:

I helped my younger cousin, who is in high school. He was struggling with his science project, which he had to submit right after the holidays. He looked stressed and a bit overwhelmed by the task.

How you helped:

I sat down with him to understand the requirements of his project. After discussing some ideas, we decided to create a working model of a water purification system. I guided him through the research, helped him gather materials, and supervised while he built the model. I also helped him rehearse his presentation so he’d feel confident in front of his class.

And explain how you felt about the experience:

Honestly, I felt really satisfied and proud. It gave me a chance to bond with my cousin and use my skills to support him. Seeing his confidence grow and hearing that he received praise from his teacher made me feel genuinely happy. It reminded me of how rewarding it is to help someone, especially within the family.
