Describe a plan that you had to change recently - IELTS Cue Card

You should say:

  • When this happened
  • What made you change the plan
  • What the new plan was
  • And how you felt about the change

When this happened:

This happened about two weeks ago. I had planned a short weekend trip with my friends to Udaipur because we all wanted a quick break from our busy schedules. Everything was already booked, including the hotel and train tickets.

What made you change the plan:

Unfortunately, two days before our trip, one of my friends tested positive for the flu, and another got an urgent work assignment. Since half of our group couldn’t join and we didn’t want to go without them, we decided to cancel the trip. Also, the weather forecast showed heavy rain during those days, which made traveling inconvenient.

What the new plan was:

Instead of going to Udaipur, we decided to have a small get-together at my home. We ordered food, played board games, watched movies, and spent quality time together. It turned out to be quite relaxing and fun even though we stayed indoors.

How you felt about the change:

Initially, I felt a bit disappointed because I was really looking forward to the trip. However, after spending time with my friends at home, I realised that it’s not the place that matters but the people you’re with. In the end, I felt happy and content with how things turned out.

1. Do people often change their plans?

Yes, people often change their plans because of unexpected situations like health issues, work emergencies, or weather conditions. Nowadays, life is quite unpredictable, so flexibility has become a normal part of planning.

2. Would you tell others if you change your plan?

Yes, definitely. I think it’s polite and responsible to inform others if I change my plan, especially when they are involved. It helps avoid confusion and shows that I respect their time and arrangements.

3. Why do you think parents still make plans for their children nowadays?

Parents make plans for their children because they have more experience and want to guide them in the right direction. They plan things like education, routines, or family activities to ensure their children’s safety, growth, and better future.

4. How does technology help people make plans?

Technology makes planning much easier. People use apps for calendars, travel bookings, reminders, and navigation. It helps save time, stay organised, and adjust plans quickly if something changes.
