Describe something you bought that you really wanted to return - IELTS Cue Card

You should say:

  • What it is
  • When and where you bought it
  • Why you wanted to return it
  • And explain whether you returned it in the end

What it is

Last year, I bought a smartwatch that I had been wanting for a long time. It was a stylish model with advanced fitness-tracking features, and I was really excited to use it to monitor my health and daily activities.

When and where you bought it

I purchased it in January 2024 from an online shopping website during a New Year sale. The product had excellent reviews, and the discount was quite tempting, so I decided to buy it immediately.

Why you wanted to return it

When the smartwatch arrived, I realized that it wasn’t as good as it looked online. The strap was uncomfortable, the battery drained very quickly, and some features like heart rate monitoring didn’t work properly. Moreover, the screen brightness was too low to use outdoors. I felt disappointed and regretted my purchase.

And explain whether you returned it in the end

Yes, I eventually decided to return it after using it for a few days. The return process was quite smooth, and I received a full refund within a week. Although it was a bit inconvenient, I learned to check detailed reviews and specifications before making any online purchase in the future.

Follow Up Questions

1. What do you think of advertisements?

I think advertisements are quite powerful and influential. They help people learn about new products and services, but sometimes they can be misleading. Good advertisements are creative and informative, but I believe consumers should always do their own research before making a purchase decision.

2. Do you think physical stores will disappear in the future?

I don’t think physical stores will completely disappear, but their number might reduce due to the popularity of online shopping. Many people still prefer to see and touch products before buying, especially for clothes, electronics, or groceries. So, in my opinion, physical stores and online platforms will continue to exist side by side.
