Describe a Difficult Thing You Did and Succeeded In – IELTS Cue Card

You should say:

  • What it was
  • How you overcame the difficulties
  • Whether you got help
  • And explain how you felt after you succeeded

What it was

One of the most difficult things I ever did was preparing for my IELTS exam while managing my college studies at the same time. I had a very tight schedule and limited time for preparation, but I wanted to achieve a good band score to study abroad. Balancing both academics and IELTS training was a real challenge for me.

How you overcame the difficulties

To overcome the difficulties, I created a strict timetable and followed it sincerely. I studied IELTS practice materials early in the morning and focused on my college subjects in the evening. I also watched English news channels and YouTube lectures to improve my listening and speaking skills. Consistency and time management played a huge role in overcoming the struggle.

Whether you got help

Yes, I got a lot of help from my IELTS trainer, who guided me in improving my writing and speaking skills. My friends also supported me by practicing speaking topics together, which boosted my confidence. Moreover, my family encouraged me continuously, which kept me motivated.

And explain how you felt after you succeeded

After I achieved an overall band score of 7, I felt extremely proud and relieved. All my hard work finally paid off. It gave me a great sense of achievement and boosted my confidence to face future challenges. It also taught me that with dedication and persistence, any difficult task can be turned into success.
