India is the only country which is covered by three sides of water, Bay of Bengal, Arabic ocean and Indian ocean. Not only the ocean it has so many rivers which gives many benefits to the Indian, specifically there are17 rivers in Tamil nadu here some name of the rivers, they are palar, varaha nadhi, ponnaiyar, vellar, paravanar, cauvery, agniyar etc..
Here i am going to talk about the ponnaiyar river, it is also known as Dakshina pinakini in kannada in tamil it is known as Thenpennai or ponnaiyar river. Bangalore, Hosur, Thiruvanamalai and Cuddalore are the major cities on the bank of ponnaiyar river. This is the second largest river in Tamil nadu.
I learnt it from a magazine, but I don't exactly remember which magazine it was. They gave so much information about the river, but I have forgotten some points about the river. The river originates in the Nandhi hills in the Chikkaballapura district of karnataka and it flows through tamil nadu, water flows during the monsoon season, when it is fed by the south-west monsoon and the northeast monsoon.
Farmers in Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Tiruvannamalai,Villupuram and Cuddalore were getting water from this river for agriculture irrigation, not only for the irrigation people in some villages in this district were using this river water as drinking water.
While reading about the Thenpennai river in the magazine, they mention that it has many sub basins. It made me search about this river in google, then I came to know that it was totally 19 basins. Also, I have gathered so much information about the Thenpennai river from google.
Water bodies are very important to the people, but some companies and factors, and people were exploiting it by polluting the water bodies. People must know the uses of water and they should stop polluting it.
Without water we can not live as simple as say- no water, no life. Like that Rivers and lakes are very important to our day to day life, those are the large water bodies that contain freshwater which is used as drinking water and also for irrigation.
Here I am going to talk about the Sepik river which is the longest river on the island of New Guinea, and it is the second largest in Oceania by discharge volume after the fly river. This river flows through the Papua New Guinea, provinces of Sandaum and East Sepik, with a small section flowing through the Indonesia province of Papua.
I have learnt it during my school days, when I was in 10 th standard,it was given in the geographic book it was given in the geographic book. It has a large watershed area, and landforms along with swamplands, tropical rainforests and mountains. Often it is said to be the largest unpolluted freshwater wetland system in the Asia-Pacific region.
Almost entirely of the products from the river, the Sepik river provides them with food, drinking water, washing and transport. The local economy was increased on the sale of sago, fish, freshwater prawns, eels, turtles and the eggs and skin meat of crocodiles.
Sepik river is the longest free flowing river system with 1500 lakes and other associated wetlands, also it is the only river which has a freshwater basin in the whole Asia Pacific region.
As mentioned above water bodies are not only for irrigation and only for household usage, there are some areas which are using water bodies to earn.
