If you are preparing for Germany's new dMAT, you have probably typed "dMAT mock test," "dMAT practice test," or "dMAT question paper" into Google and landed on pages promising huge PDF bundles. Before you download anything, read this. The dMAT practice test situation is not what most websites make it look like, and getting this wrong can cost you time you don't have before the exam.
This guide gives you the straight answer on what dMAT sample papers actually exist, where to get genuinely free and official practice material, and how our counsellors at Pacific Educational Consultant tell students to build a realistic mock test at home — at zero cost.
| Quick answer: There is no official dMAT mock test or previous-year question paper, because the exam launched only in 2026. The only genuine dMAT practice material is g.a.s.t.'s free preparatory PDF and information videos on d-mat.de, covering the Core Module and General Academic Module with worked solutions. |
No. The dMAT (digital Master Test) was introduced by g.a.s.t. as part of the APS India documentation only in 2026, and the very first sitting took place on 26 September 2026, per the APS India dMAT page. That single fact changes everything about how you should prepare.
Because the exam is brand new, there is no bank of previous-year dMAT question papers the way there is for the GRE, GMAT or GATE. There is no "2022, 2023, 2024 or 2025 dMAT paper," because the test did not exist in those years.
So if a website is selling a "dMAT previous year question paper (2022–2025)" collection, it is describing something that cannot exist. Treat that as your first filter for judging whether a dMAT resource is trustworthy.
Pacific Educational Consultant Insight #1 Every week a student messages us asking where to buy dMAT previous papers or a coaching "manual," the way they'd buy a GATE reference book. Our honest advice: don't. The two or three weeks students lose hunting for a paper that doesn't exist are far better spent inside the free official practice sets. There is no chapter list to memorise here — the dMAT tests reasoning speed, not recall.

The good news is that the people who actually run the exam give you practice material for free. g.a.s.t.'s preparation page — linked directly from d-mat.de — hosts the only material confirmed to match the real format. All of it is free.
| Resource | What it contains | Cost |
| dMAT Preparatory Materials (PDF) | Instructions + graded sample exercises (low/medium/high) with full worked solutions for all three Core Module subtests, plus General Academic Module sample sets | Free |
| General Academic Module PDF (published 16 July 2026) | Core-Module exercises plus four full GAM practice sets — vectors, hydrostatics, order-quantity models and research methods | Free |
| Information videos | One walkthrough per Core subtest, plus a demo of the on-screen exam interface you'll actually use on test day | Free |
Two practical warnings from our counselling desk. First, on test day the software shows only short reminders, not full instructions — so watch the videos and read the PDF before the exam, not during it. Second, the PDF itself notes that its sample questions don't represent the full difficulty or range of the real test; they teach you the task types, not the exact paper you'll sit.
The closest thing to an official "dMAT sample paper" is that preparatory PDF. For every Core Module task type it gives you the rules, a worked example, and the reasoning path to the answer — which is exactly what you need, because the dMAT rewards knowing how to attack a task type quickly.
If you want the full task-by-task breakdown of what each section covers, we've already mapped it in detail in our dMAT exam syllabus 2026 guide — so we won't repeat it here.
The dMAT has two parts that matter for Indian APS applicants: the Core Module (identical for everyone) and the General Academic Module (also the same for every APS India applicant, regardless of your degree). The full sitting runs roughly 3 to 3.5 hours, including a 30-minute break, and the exam is evaluated centrally at the TestDaF Institute in Bochum, according to g.a.s.t.'s official materials.
Here's how to target your dMAT practice test at each section.
| Core Module subtest | Format | Timing | What your practice should build |
| Figure Sequences | ~20 matrix-series tasks; predict the next two matrices | ~25 min | Spotting movement, rotation, colour and x+1 acceleration rules fast |
| Mathematical Equations | Simultaneous systems solved by logic deduction (not BODMAS drills) | ~25 min | Mental algebra and elimination under time pressure |
| Latin Squares | 5×5 grids using letters A–E; solved by elimination | ~25 min | Systematic elimination without writing anything down |
Key rules to build into every practice run: there is no negative marking, so never leave a question blank — guess if unsure. And no calculator, notes or scratch paper are allowed for any subtest.
For the General Academic Module, you read a short academic passage — drawn from areas like mathematics, sciences, engineering, business or social sciences — and answer questions that test whether you can apply the information, not whether you memorised it. Re-reading your undergraduate textbooks is the wrong prep; practising careful, timed reading of unfamiliar passages is the right one.
| Pacific Educational Consultant Insight #2 The single biggest self-inflicted mistake we see: students practise Figure Sequences and Latin Squares in a notebook with a pen. The real exam bans scratch paper entirely. If you build a paper habit now, you'll have to unlearn it on the most stressful day possible. Practise mentally from day one, exactly as the test demands. |
Because there's no official mock test bank yet, the most realistic mock is the one you build yourself — matched exactly to the real exam's timing. This is the free framework we give Pacific students.
The Pacific 3-Timer Method
Mock-readiness checklist — you're ready to sit the dMAT when you can:
For a day-by-day schedule that plugs these mocks into a full timeline, follow our 60-day dMAT study plan instead of designing one from scratch.
Self-study on the official material works well for most students. But if you'd rather not build your own mocks — or you want someone to grade your reasoning speed and fix weak task types before test day — our dMAT online course gives you structured practice sets, timed section drills that mirror the real per-subtest clock, and live doubt-solving with counsellors who track the exam.
It's built around the same free official g.a.s.t. material we've recommended above, so you're never paying for "secret papers" that don't exist — you're paying for structure, feedback and accountability. You can explore it on our e-learning portal or ask about it in a free counselling call.
You only need to practise for the dMAT if it actually applies to you. Here's the quick context, with the deeper pages linked so you can go straight to the detail you need.

| Pacific Educational Consultant Insight #3 Don't over-drill the dMAT. Because your score is not a pass/fail gate for your APS certificate — it's one data point universities weigh alongside your profile — months of coaching rarely pay off. Two or three honest, timed mocks on the official material usually beat an expensive "complete dMAT package," especially one that bundles Subject Modules you don't even need. APS India applicants sit the General Academic Module, not the Battery Science or Data Science modules some sites try to sell. |
Is there a free dMAT mock test PDF I can download?
Not an official full-length mock, but g.a.s.t.'s free preparatory PDF on d-mat.de includes graded sample questions with worked solutions for every Core Module task type plus the General Academic Module. It's the closest legitimate thing to a dMAT sample paper.
Are there dMAT previous year question papers?
No. The dMAT was introduced in 2026 and first held on 26 September 2026, so there is no history of past papers. Any site selling pre-2026 dMAT question papers is misleading you.
Where can I find the best dMAT practice test?
Start with the official d-mat.de preparatory materials and information videos, then simulate the real timing yourself using the 3-Timer Method above. Third-party questions can add volume, but treat them as unofficial practice, not real exam questions.
Does the dMAT have negative marking?
No. Wrong answers don't reduce your score, so you should attempt every question and guess when unsure rather than leaving blanks.
Can I use a calculator or rough paper in the dMAT?
No. Calculators, scratch paper and notes are not allowed in any Core Module subtest, which is why we tell students to practise mentally from the start.
How is the dMAT scored?
Your Core Module and Subject/General Academic Module are scored separately on a scaled range and then combined, alongside a percentile rank — there is no fixed pass mark. We explain the full scoring logic in our dedicated dMAT score and result guide.
How long is the dMAT and what does it include?
The full sitting runs roughly 3 to 3.5 hours, including a 30-minute break, and covers the Core Module (about 90 minutes across three subtests) plus the General Academic Module.
Do I even need the dMAT?
Only if you're an Indian Master's applicant to Germany for Summer Semester 2027 or later, with a bachelor's in an affected field (Engineering, Commerce, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business or Management). If you're unsure how your degree is classified, get it checked before you register.
Is there a dMAT online course for guided preparation?
Yes. Pacific Educational Consultant offers a dMAT online course with structured, timed practice sets, section-wise drills that match the real exam clock, and live doubt-solving with counsellors. It's built on the official g.a.s.t. material, so you get structure and feedback rather than "previous papers" that don't exist.
Not sure whether the dMAT even applies to your degree, or how to fit it around your APS and university deadlines? Our counsellors can map it all out with you — and help you study a Master's in Germany with a clear, realistic plan.
Want structured, guided practice instead of self-study? Our dMAT online course gives you timed mocks, section drills and live feedback, all built on the official material. Explore it on our e-learning portal.
