In IELTS Speaking, generating ideas can often be the most challenging part. Here, you'll find four sample answers designed to help you grasp effective speaking techniques. This cue card task may seem tricky, but it can actually be one of the easiest, as the examiner focuses more on your fluency than on your lexical range.
During the IELTS Speaking exam, the examiner will explain the timing guidelines. You’ll get 1 minute to prepare your content for the cue card and then you’ll need to speak for about 2-3 minutes. Sometimes, the examiner may prompt you to speak a little more to give you extra chances to correct any previous mistakes.

You should say:
What kind of weather it is?
When this weather usually occurs?
What do you usually do during this weather?
Explain how this weather affects you?
And explain why you like this type of weather.
Well, this might sound a little unusual, but I’m going to talk about my favourite type of weather — winter! Although many people aren't big fans of the cold, there’s something about it that I genuinely adore.
The heart of winter, especially around Christmas time, is simply magical for me. The chilly breeze, cozy blankets, and the aroma of freshly brewed filter coffee in my city make it even more special.
Typically, winter sets in around late September and lasts until early March. However, due to global warming, winters nowadays tend to begin around October and end by February.
As I mentioned earlier, sipping on a hot cup of filter coffee is my favourite activity during winter. Additionally, I love indulging in the delicious hot chocolate prepared by my younger brother. Interestingly, he despises winter, which means he spends more time indoors with me — and we end up having some memorable moments together.
Winter gives me a burst of positive energy. Every time I step outside, the crisp, chilly air instantly uplifts my mood and fills me with enthusiasm.
Winter offers me the perfect excuse to stay in bed with a good book. It’s the season I eagerly anticipate all year round because it allows me to relax, recharge, and enjoy little pleasures that other seasons just can’t match.
In short, there are countless reasons why I love winter. It rejuvenates my spirit and fills me with a fresh sense of joy and excitement. During this season, I feel as happy as Larry!
I hail from Mumbai, a city that’s famous for its vibrant rainy season.
The monsoon in Mumbai is enchanting — it’s the gloomy, rain-soaked atmosphere that draws people from all over India. Even though the humidity can be quite bothersome for many, I find every part of the rainy season absolutely delightful.
The monsoon usually begins in June and continues until the end of September. For these four months, Mumbai witnesses heavy rainfall almost daily.
The rain transforms the city’s surroundings into a lush green paradise. Taking full advantage of this beauty, my younger brother and I often head out for a ride to a nearby hill. We park our vehicle, hike up the hill, and enjoy the homemade coffee our mother packs for us, all while soaking in the breathtaking view.
Honestly, the rain gives me plenty of reasons to celebrate life. Whenever it rains, I make sure to steal a few moments from my busy schedule just to live in and appreciate the present.
I truly believe that, like me, many others find themselves on cloud nine during the monsoon season!
