Describe a time you made a decision to wait for something IELTS Cue Card

You should say

  • When it happened
  • What you waited for
  • Why you made the decision
  • And explain how you felt while waiting

1. When it happened:

This happened about two years ago, in the middle of the pandemic. I had just finished a long freelance project and was at a crossroads in my career, considering whether to accept a job offer or hold out for something better.

2. What you waited for:

I decided to wait for a job that truly aligned with my passion for writing and content strategy, rather than settling for the first offer that came my way. Specifically, I was hoping for a remote role that offered creative freedom and long-term growth.

3. Why you made the decision:

The decision to wait wasn't easy, but I made it because I realized that short-term comfort could easily derail my long-term goals. I wanted work that felt meaningful and would allow me to develop my skills in a way that aligned with my future aspirations. Jumping at the first offer might have felt safe, but it wouldn’t have been fulfilling.

4. How you felt while waiting:

Waiting was a mix of anxiety and cautious optimism. Some days, I doubted myself and wondered if I was being too picky. Other days, I felt empowered by my decision, trusting that something worthwhile would come along. In the end, the waiting paid off—six weeks later, I landed a role that checked all the boxes and genuinely excited me.
