Well, making commitments is always a positive step, but fulfilling them often demands a great deal of hard work and determination.
Here, I would like to share a story about a promise I made to my parents.
I promised them that I would achieve excellent marks in my 10th-grade board examinations.
During my 10th grade, my friends and I initially played sports for just an hour daily, but gradually it increased to four hours, badly affecting my academics. Consequently, I barely passed my first term exams, which deeply upset my parents. After a serious scolding, I realized the gravity of my mistake and made a heartfelt promise to them that I would pass my finals with flying colors.
At first, it was quite challenging. Shifting from hours of play to serious study felt tedious and boring. However, once I began engaging deeply with each subject, I found my rhythm. Eventually, my efforts paid off, and I proudly scored 95% in my board exams.
Thus, keeping promises not only strengthens our bonds with others but also pushes us to achieve things we might have once thought impossible.
Often in life, we encounter moments that require us to make strong commitments.
Today, I’d like to talk about a promise I made to my parents during a particularly difficult time.
I promised them that I would return to working from the office only after an appropriate COVID-19 vaccine became available.
During the COVID pandemic, it was truly a catch-22 situation. Living far from my parents and with strict travel restrictions, it was nearly impossible for them to visit me. Naturally, they became extremely worried and possessive about my wellbeing. Seeing their stress was heartbreaking for me, so I made them a solemn promise to prioritize my safety and return to the office only after getting vaccinated.
Fulfilling this promise wasn’t easy at all. Although I was fortunate enough to secure a work-from-home position due to my good rapport with my company, my productivity dropped significantly. Additionally, the lack of physical activity led to considerable weight gain and social isolation.
Finally, in July, when the government rolled out vaccinations, I immediately volunteered to get my dose. I resumed working from the office shortly after, and my parents were extremely proud that I had kept my promise.
