Describe a time when you helped a child IELTS Cue Card
You should say:
This happened about two years ago, during a summer volunteering program at a local community center. I had signed up to assist with weekend activities for underprivileged children.
There was a young boy named Aryan, around 8 years old, who was struggling with reading. I spent extra time with him after the group sessions, helping him sound out words and understand basic grammar. I also brought in storybooks that matched his interests to keep him engaged.
He reminded me a lot of my younger self—curious but hesitant due to a lack of confidence. I knew that if someone had supported me back then, I would’ve progressed faster. I helped him because I believed that with the right encouragement, he could improve and enjoy learning.
I felt incredibly fulfilled and proud. Watching Aryan gradually gain confidence and start reading on his own was deeply rewarding. It reminded me of the impact small acts of kindness can have, especially on a child’s future.
