Sample Answer (Band 7–8)

I would like to talk about a time when I accidentally broke my mother’s favorite ceramic vase at home.

This incident happened last year in the evening when I was cleaning the living room. The vase was placed on a small table near the sofa, and while moving the furniture, my elbow hit the table. The vase fell on the floor and shattered into several pieces.

I felt extremely guilty and nervous because that vase was a gift my mother received on her wedding anniversary. Instead of hiding it, I immediately informed her about what had happened. I apologized sincerely and helped clean up the broken pieces carefully to avoid injuries.

Later, I went to a nearby market and bought a similar vase as a replacement. Although it was not exactly the same, my mother appreciated my honesty and responsible behavior. This incident taught me to be more careful and also showed me the importance of telling the truth when mistakes happen.

Follow-Up Questions & Answers

1. What kind of things are more likely to be broken by people at home?

At home, fragile items such as glassware, mirrors, mobile phones, and ceramic decorations are most likely to be broken. These objects are often placed on shelves or tables and can easily fall due to carelessness or accidents.

2. What kind of people like to fix things by themselves?

People who are practical, patient, and creative usually enjoy fixing things themselves. They like understanding how objects work and feel satisfied when they repair something without professional help. Such people are often confident and independent.

3. Do you think clothes produced in factories are of better quality than those made by hand?

Factory-made clothes are generally more consistent in quality because they are produced using modern machines and quality control systems. However, handmade clothes can be more durable and unique if made by skilled tailors using high-quality fabric.

4. Do you think handmade clothes are more valuable?

Yes, handmade clothes are often more valuable because they require more time, effort, and craftsmanship. They are usually customized and have emotional or cultural significance, especially in traditional clothing.

5. Is the older generation better at fixing things?

In many cases, yes. Older people grew up in a time when repairing items was common due to limited resources. They have more practical experience and problem-solving skills compared to the younger generation, who often depend on replacements instead of repairs.

6. Do you think elderly people should teach young people how to fix things?

Absolutely. Elderly people should pass on their repair skills to younger generations. This helps preserve useful knowledge, promotes independence, and encourages sustainability by reducing waste and unnecessary spending.
