Describe a time when the electricity suddenly went off - IELTS Cue Card

You should say:

When/where it happened

How long it lasted

What you did during that time

And explain how you felt about it

When/where it happened

It happened last summer at my home in Kota, during the peak of the afternoon. The temperature was extremely high, and everyone was using coolers and air conditioners, so the electricity suddenly went off without any warning.

How long it lasted

The power cut lasted for nearly two hours. At first, I thought it would come back in a few minutes, but the long delay made it a bit uncomfortable because of the heat.

What you did during that time

Since I couldn’t use my phone or laptop for long due to low battery, I decided to sit outside in the veranda where there was some natural breeze. I also spent time chatting with my family and later read a book that I had been ignoring for weeks.

And explain how you felt about it

Honestly, I felt a bit irritated at first because I was in the middle of some online work. However, later I realized it gave me a much-needed break from screens. Spending time with my family and reading quietly felt refreshing, so in the end, I didn’t regret the experience.
