Describe a time when someone gave you something that you really wanted - IELTS Cue Card
You should say
What it was
When you received it
Who gave it to you
And explain how you felt when the person gave it to you
It was a smartphone that I had been wanting for a very long time. My old phone was quite slow and had a poor camera, so I always wished to have a new one with better features. I wanted it mainly to stay connected with my friends, take good pictures, and attend my online classes more comfortably.
I received it on my birthday last year. It was a complete surprise for me because I wasn’t expecting such an expensive gift. I still remember, after cutting the cake, my family gave me a small box wrapped in colorful paper. When I opened it and saw the brand-new smartphone, I was so excited that I couldn’t stop smiling.
The gift was given to me by my elder sister. She works in another city and couldn’t attend my birthday celebration, but she had ordered the phone online and got it delivered to our home on that very day. Later, she video-called me to see my reaction. It was such a sweet and thoughtful gesture from her side.
When I realized that the phone was from my sister, I felt incredibly happy and touched. It wasn’t just about getting a new phone; it was the love and effort she put into making me happy that meant the most. I felt grateful and emotional because it showed how much she cared for me. Every time I use that phone, it reminds me of her affection and support.
