You should say:
This incident happened about two years ago when I was working as an intern at a marketing agency. It was during the summer, and I had been invited to attend an important client meeting for the first time.
On the day of the meeting, I woke up later than usual because my phone’s alarm didn’t go off—I had accidentally set it for PM instead of AM. By the time I realized, I was already running almost an hour late. I rushed to get ready and left immediately, but to make things worse, there was heavy traffic due to unexpected road construction near my office. When I finally reached, the meeting had already started, and I had to quietly sneak into the room halfway through.
The main reason I was late was a combination of my own carelessness and bad luck. I had set the alarm wrong the previous night because I was exhausted after preparing for the meeting. Then, the traffic delay added fuel to the fire. It felt like everything that could go wrong actually did that morning.
I felt terribly embarrassed and disappointed in myself because I really wanted to make a good impression on both my boss and the client. It was my first opportunity to participate in such a crucial meeting, and being late made me seem unprofessional. However, I also learned a valuable lesson about double-checking alarms and leaving extra time for possible delays. Now, I always set multiple alarms and leave earlier for important events.
