IELTS Cue Card Topic: Describe a place you visited and enjoyed in the countryside

You should say:

  • Where it was in the countryside

  • What you did there

  • And explain how you felt about the visit

Where it was in the countryside:

A few months ago, I visited a beautiful countryside village called Mashobra, located in the hills of Himachal Pradesh, India. It’s a quiet, lesser-known spot about 10 kilometers away from the popular hill station Shimla. The village is surrounded by lush green forests, apple orchards, and snow-capped mountains in the distance. It was the perfect rural escape, far from the noise and chaos of city life.

What you did there:

During my stay, I engaged in a variety of activities. I went on peaceful morning walks through the pine forests, took part in a short hiking trail that led to a viewpoint overlooking the valley, and even visited a local apple farm. One of the highlights was simply sitting on the wooden balcony of my homestay, sipping tea and watching the clouds roll in over the hills. I also had conversations with a few local villagers, which gave me insights into their way of life. At night, the sky was so clear that I could see countless stars—a rare sight for a city dweller like me.

And explain how you felt about the visit:

I felt completely refreshed and recharged after the visit. Being surrounded by nature gave me a deep sense of calm and clarity. The simplicity of rural life made me appreciate the smaller joys—like fresh air, silence, and time slowing down. I didn’t realize how much I needed a digital detox until I was there with no mobile signal and no distractions. It was a truly grounding experience, and I left Mashobra feeling more connected to nature and myself. I would definitely love to return and spend more time there.
